Maoris : all started towards 750 of our era, on a small named island Hawaiki close to Tahiti in Polynesia. The king of then decided to send several forwardings in 3 directions to the conquest of new spaces. On their "you waka", giant canoes of 40 meters, these navigators of exception crossed thousands of kilometers ! Some reached the Island of Easter then Chile, others, current Hawaii. But the third crew discovered an immense virgin land : New Zealand. Maoris did not to write. They were transmitted their history by songs and dances. The most known dances are Haka (war dance) and the wero (challenge). The songs are sung by the boys or by the girls. They use the poipoi (kind of small ball fixed on a stick) and shake it when they sing. The boys use the mother (kind of arms slipped into their piupiu) during their dance. It’s the war dance of Maoris (which preceded a battle) It’s that which the players of Rugby of New Zealand carry out before their match to frighten to other team. Each tribe has its haka. Most known is that of Te Rauparaha, large maori head of the 18/19e century.
